C.J. Fair from Syracuse has won StatSheet's Big East Player of the Week for February 11th. St. John's's JaKarr Sampson has won StatSheet's Big East Freshman of the Week. And last but not least, Villanova's JayVaughn Pinkston has received StatSheet's Big East 6th Man of the Week. Fair had great stats in shooting (50%), scoring (17.5 pts per game), and rebounding (9.5 per game). The Syracuse junior played well in victories against 25th ranked Notre Dame and St. John's.
Fair led scoring and rebounding for the Orange with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 63-47 win against Notre Dame. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring and rebounding with 17 points and 9 rebounds in a 77-58 victory against St. John's.
This is the first StatSheet Big East Player of the Week award for C.J. Fair. The runner-up this week is Providence junior Kadeem Batts. Honorable mention goes to Georgetown sophomore Otto Porter. Junior Cadougan was the highest ranking player from Marquette, finishing 15th.
StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week: St. John's's JaKarr Sampson
JaKarr Sampson was on the floor an average of 35 minutes as a starter for St. John's. He was number one among all Big East freshmen in scoring (19.5 pts per game). In a 71-65 win over Connecticut, Sampson led the Red Storm in scoring with 18 points on 46% shooting. Then in a 77-58 loss to Syracuse, he led all scoring and rebounding with 21 points and 6 rebounds.
Amazingly, JaKarr Sampson has won the StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week 4 times. The runner-up is Steven Adams from Pittsburgh. Omar Calhoun from Connecticut receives honorable mention.
StatSheet Big East 6th Man of the Week: Villanova's JayVaughn Pinkston
Sophomore JayVaughn Pinkston, a 6-7 forward, played an average of 25 minutes over two games for the Wildcats. In a lopsided 94-71 win against DePaul, Pinkston added 11 points and 4 rebounds. After that, in a strong 68-40 win over South Florida, he racked up 10 points and 5 rebounds.
This is the second StatSheet Big East 6th Man of the Week honor for JayVaughn Pinkston. Lee Goldsbrough, a junior forward from Providence, is runner up. Our own Jamil Wilson receives honorable mention. Marquette has one StatSheet Big East Player of the Week win this season.
